Employment Opportunities

We are pleased to have already hired one student. We may have room for one more.

LL.M students (most of whom graduated from U.K. law schools) who have volunteered at our North York office have gained very valuable practical experience and likely achieved an upper hand for their future careers. The LL.M students gain hands-on familiarity in a wide variety of family law cases from custody/access to property division to spousal support to child protection. Responsibilities undertaken have included:

  • Participate in initial intake;
  • Help draft affidavits and other pleadings;
  • Prepare Financial Disclosure Briefs;
  • Legal research;
  • Review Children's Aid document production and highlight relevant documents;
  • Participate in "in house" C.L.E.; and,
  • Assist with filing (which might sound boring but really is not as one learns the proper organization of a family law file).
  • Telephone Screening of potential clients;
  • Take typed notes at Consultation Interviews;

We have a healthy work environment with robust camaraderie.

Most of all, you benefit from a senior practitioner's mentoring and enthusiastic, dedicated associate lawyers who appreciate the intrinsic value of helping to train the next generation of family law lawyers.

One of our lawyers achieved her LL.B in the U.K, worked here during her LL.M studies, and articled here prior to her call to the bar. She is now an accomplished Associate Lawyer with the firm.

The work hours are flexible. We understand that the student is taking courses to qualify for Ontario licensure and that therefore priority must be given to that essential course work. But with our firm, at the same time as you upgrade your Ontario academic credentials, you gain all important experience in the practice of family law. Let Osgoode or U of T teach you the theory; we'll help you with 'real life'!

We have room to entertain a small number of enthusiastic, bright, personable and very competent individuals to volunteer at our firm. We provide the mentoring, training and experience and in return you provide the work hours each week that fit into your already busy schedule. Be part of a cutting edge Toronto family law firm within an innovative framework that respects your educational goals and enhances your future employment prospects.
