Jul 20, 2025 – Equal Shared Parenting Petition

We are petitioning the House of Commons to change the Divorce Act to include a “rebuttable presumption of equal shared parenting.” We are fortunate to have a group of MP’s who are fully onboard to help effect this legislative change. Demonstrate that Canadians are onboard too!

A rebuttable presumption of Equal Shared Parenting means that unless there’s evidence of safety concerns or other signficant issues, children of separated or divorced parents would spend equal or near-equal time with both parents, and both parents would share joint decision-making responsibility.

The petition cites research showing that this arrangement leads to better outcomes for children, and notes that many countries with similar laws have seen positive results. It also points out that a majority of Canadians (around 70%) support this type of legislation. The proposed change would allow for exceptions where safety or well-being concerns exist, giving judges discretion to make different arrangements when necessary.

Please sign the petition today and distribute as widely as possible. https://tinyurl.com/2s3jm9h3
